Seeding Clams and Oysters

Lynn and I recently purchased a property on Harstine Island in the South Sounds, WA. We’re in the process of building a house on the salt water front lot. One of the popular things to do is to plant you own shellfish on the beach. This June, we planted two types of Oysters (Kumo’s and Triploid’s) and Manilla Clams. The Kumo’s will take about 12 – 18 months to reach full size while the triploids and clams should be ready for eating in 9 – 12. Yum… 🙂
We bought our seeds from Taylor Shellfish Farms in Shelton. They have regular seed sales that coincide with the super low tides (required to get a good, low spot for planting).
